How to Fix 500 Internal Server Error in your WordPress Admin Dashboard?

Have you recently installed wordpress 3.3.1 or did automatic or manually updated wordpress to wordperss 3.3.1 and got 500 Internal Server Error while accessing your WordPress Admin Dashboard (wp-admin). Most likely it is caused by low memory limit on your server.

How to Fix 500 Internal Server Error in your WordPress Admin Dashboard?

Here is the easy fix for 500 Internal Server Error in your WordPress 3.3.1.

Create a new file “php.ini” in you wp-admin directory (you can do this through FTP) and write following lines in it. (Please note: file extension should be “.ini” not “.ini.txt” or something else.

memory_limit = 64M

If you already have “php.ini” file in your wp-admin directory then just add above lines in it.

Save the file and now access the WordPress Admin Dashboard, you will be able to access your wordpress dashboard without 500 Internal Server Error.

      It seems your functions.php has some errors or bad code but first disable all plugins.

      WordPress 3.3.1+ needs more memory to run so that’s why we have to increase memory limit.

    I have just made the file you suggested and am hoping it will still fix my problem. Every time I try to make a new post or delete a comment, (basically anything whilst working in the dashboard) I get a 500 server error. At the moment I sit with my ftp client open and re upload the htaccess file when it happens and away I go again. Do you think it will work for this problem? Thanks

    I just tried it. No…it doesn’t work for my problem.
